"The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a pre-professional membership association for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders" (ASHA website). Along with the national association, we have a Biola NSSLHA Chapter which aims at growing, connecting, and encouraging Biola Communication Disorders majors. Our chapter has an advisor, president, and vice president, and we are supported through Biola's student government. Our purpose is to provide a place for the students in our major to interact outside of class in a social setting, to encourage one another and to have fun. Our main events include monthly get-togethers ranging from bowling and movie nights to holiday parties such as the semester kick-off Luau, a Christmas party, and end of the year Semi-formal Dinner. The end of the year dinner is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the year, say good-bye to the seniors, and interact with our professors and guest speakers. We desire to not only reach out to one another, but to the community as well through promoting communication health and through community service projects. We participate in the University-wide health fair and in community outreach events. We also desire to help one another grow spiritually. The faith of our professors is so clear, and they have taken the initiative in offering a weekly Bible study. It is a time of prayer and studying the Word which can only make us a stronger community. NSSLHA is a wonderful way to get to know others within the major, as well as make an impact in the community. Kali |
